Flowers make a lovely backdrop to any wedding. The style and color of floral arrangements can set the tone for the whole wedding. Usually when one thinks of wedding flowers the bride's bouquet comes to mind. However there are a myriad of other floral possibilities at a wedding.
The brides attendants usually carry flowers. The flower girl may scatter petals. The groom and his attendants, if they are not wearing handkerchiefs, will wear boutonnieres. The mothers wear corsages that match their dresses. Sometimes grandparents are also given small corsages or boutonnieres. Of course there are also floral arrangements adorning the ceremony site and the reception hall.
Still, the bride's bouquet is an important decision and often the focus of a great deal of excitement. We suggest that brides come to in with a picture of something they particularly like that they've seen in a magazine or elsewhere.
The first thing the bride should decide is what shape she wants her bouquet to be. The classic style for bouquets is the cascade. The cascade is like a waterfall of flowers flowing down to a point in front. It often features roses or lilies, interspersed with other smaller flowers and plenty of greenery.
We have seen the clutch bouquet gaining in popularity. The clutch is very simple, usually just flowers tied by a ribbon that flows down from the stems. Rose clutches are very popular. Wildflower clutches are also very pretty. Other possible shapes are the teardrop, which is similar to the cascade but more diamond-shaped and shorter, the round bouquet and the free form bouquet.
Once you know what shape you want you can decide which flowers to use. Roses come in a variety of sizes and colors, as do lilies and orchids. Stephonitas, a white, trumpet-shaped flower, blooms in the summer and is a favorite of brides. Most brides opt for white or cream-colored flowers for their bouquets, though some add color. We let the bride choose the flowers, it's her day and her money. If she makes the decisions the flowers will really belong to her. But we do advise having a second choice in mind because season and weather can influence the availability of certain flowers at certain times.
Whatever flowers you choose it's a good idea to have a swatch of the fabric for the bridesmaids' dresses and the wedding gown. There can be many interpretations of the word white. This will help match flower color and ribbon color.
Choosing flowers and watching your dreams turn into beautiful arrangements can be a lot of fun. Talk to us when you choose your church and reception hall. Book a date. Dates can fill up fast.
